Yoga taught me to listen to the body.
Art taught me to observe the world.

Movement • Creativity • Attention

I’ve spent much of my life exploring two parallel practices: movement and making.

Yoga taught me to listen to the body.
Art taught me to observe the world.

Both continue to shape how I move through life.

I’m Nicola Byers — artist, yoga teacher, and lifelong student of attention.

Born in England and raised in South Africa, I grew up between landscapes and cultures. Change became something familiar early on, and over time I learned that creativity and movement are powerful ways to navigate it.

Like many people in their fifties, life has offered both beautiful chapters and difficult ones. Through it all, art and yoga became anchors — practices I could return to for steadiness, clarity, and perspective.

They taught me how to pause, how to observe, and how to begin again.

Yoga

Yoga has been part of my life for more than 30 years. What first drew me in was the connection between breath, body, and awareness.

Over time, my practice expanded through Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin, and Yoga Nidra — each offering a different way to understand movement, stillness, and the mind.

Teaching was not originally the goal. I simply wanted to deepen my own practice. That path led me to complete my 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher training, and today I guide yoga classes, workshops, and retreats shaped by that experience.

My teaching focuses on intelligent sequencing, clear guidance, and creating a space where people feel supported to explore their bodies with curiosity rather than pressure.

I remain both teacher and student — always learning.

Art

Being a third generation artist, creativity has always been part of my life.

My great-grandfather and grandfather were professional artists, and my mother sketched for quiet reflection. Growing up in that environment shaped how I learned to see the world.

Today, my work continues that creative lineage while evolving in its own direction.

Working across oils, acrylics, charcoal, and mixed media, I draw inspiration from colour in nature, human presence, and the subtle moments that stay with us long after they pass.

My work has been exhibited across South Africa, and many pieces are held in private collections.

For me, art is not only expression — it is exchange. When someone connects with a piece and chooses to live with it, the work becomes part of their space and story.

That shared resonance matters deeply.

Why nabLIFE?

The name comes from my initials — Nicola Anne Byers — and the idea of capturing a moment.

In many ways, that is what both yoga and art invite us to do.

Observe what is here.
Breathe into the present.
Create from lived experience.

“You can’t use up creativity.
The more you use, the more you have.”

Maya Angelou

It’s hip to be square.
